Abstracts

We hereby invite you to submit an abstract to this innovative colloquium, which aims to further transdisciplinary dialogue between researchers and practitioners interested in the relationship between resilience and complexity thinking, and development in dynamic social-ecological systems.

We welcome a range of submissions for the colloquium.

Colloquium Theme
‘Assessment Methods and Transformative Practices’

Themes
  1. Resilience assessment, monitoring and evaluation
  2. Creating transformative spaces
  3. Urban resilience and infrastructure
  4. Indigenous and local knowledge for stewardship and resilience
  5. Science-society partnerships for building resilience and transformation
  6. Addressing inequality and human wellbeing through ecosystem services
  7. Human rights in the Anthropocene
  8. Achieving the SDGs in Africa

Submission Types
  • Poster presentations: A2 Portrait posters that will be on display during the colloquium and there will be a special poster session
  • Speed talks: Maximum 5 minute talks
  • 15 Minute Talks: 10 - 12 min minute talks, with 3 - 5 min Q&A
  • Dialogue sessions: 1.5 hour sessions of deep conversations between a confirmed panel and the audience
  • Mini Workshops: We welcome innovative suggestions for workshops around the colloquium themes of either 1.5 hours or two sessions of 1.5 hours each

Spacing: Single spacing in and between paragraphs
Title: Max 20 words. Block capitals

Poster, 15 Min Talk & Speed Talk Guidelines
Text: Max 250 words
Please prepare abstracts to include the following key elements:
Objective: What is the intent or goal of the work? (What did you want to learn?)
Background: What is the problem and why was it important? What knowledge and/or practice are you building on?
Findings (only if applicable): A summary of the work, or results obtained (or anticipated)
Conclusions: The conclusions reached and/or recommendations.

Dialogue & Mini-Workshop Session Guidelines
Text: Max 400 words
Please prepare abstracts to include the following key elements:
Objective: What is the intent of the session/what do you want to learn?
Please outline and detail your Session:
1. Session Structure and details of any specific materials you might require in the room, if applicable.
2. Full Names of Presenters / Panellists
3. Institutional Affiliation of Presenters / Panellists
4. Session Topics / Talk Titles

Criteria for Acceptance
  • Clarity: The purpose/aims/objectives of the presentation are clearly described.
  • Significance: The submission makes an important contribution and/or is of interest.
  • Presentation: The abstract is logical, interesting, clearly written and free of errors.

Please ensure that you proof read your abstract for grammatical errors prior to submission, to avoid such errors being reproduced in publications.

Abstracts will be reviewed and accepted according to their relevance to overall colloquium objectives. Upon acceptance of the abstract, presenters will be assigned to a session and provided additional information on the preparation of slides and organisation of each session. Poster authors will be provided additional information on preparation of the poster for presentation.
