The GRAID program aims to support the Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) as a knowledge partner. GRAID is a partnership between the Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stellenbosch, South Africa partners; Centre for Complex Systems in Transition at Stellenbosch University, and CSIR’s Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services group in South Africa; as well as partners in Australia and Canada. GRAID will serve as a GRP knowledge platform to streamline insights and the latest knowledge on resilience thinking and methods for assessing and understanding resilience.

SAPECS is a transdisciplinary, international research program that aims to advance stewardship of social-ecological systems and ecosystem services in southern Africa. It is linked to the international Program on Ecosystem Change and Society (www.pecs-science.org), a 10-year research initiative within the ICSU global change programs. SAPECS consists of a network of Southern African researchers and case studies at several scales, working within a shared conceptual framework on a common set of core themes.

The Stellenbosch Centre for Complex Systems in Transition (CST) is a new Stellenbosch University ‘flagship’ initiative established in 2015. This initiative brings together three core research areas: Complexity thinking,
Sustainability science and Transdisciplinary research methodology. The CST is the lead institution hosting the colloquium and associated workshops.

Swedbio
SwedBio is a knowledge interface at Stockholm Resilience Centre contributing to poverty alleviation, equity, sustainable livelihoods and social-ecological systems rich in biodiversity that persist, adapt and transform under global change such as climate change. SwedBio enables knowledge generation, dialogue and exchange between practitioners, policy makers and scientists for development and implementation of policies and methods at multiple scales, and has provided funding to enable the attendance of African policymakers and practitioners.

NRF SARChI Program
The South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARChI) programme is a national knowledge and human resource development intervention, led by the Department of Science and Technology and managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF). The main goal of the initiative is to strengthen and improve research and innovation capacity of public universities for producing high quality postgraduate students, research, and innovation outputs. Prof Reinette (Oonsie) Biggs holds the SARChI Chair in Social-Ecological Systems and Resilience and is the lead organizer and host of the colloquium. SARChI funds have enabled the attendance of postgraduate students.
